Delay for another week

Just a wee update on things. Once again just as momentum was building university/work steps in and says no not today mates. Ed has his final honours exams for his electronics and electrical engineering degree this week and I’m staring at iOS stuff for a good while. We do have a list of tutorials we are going to fire out though as soon as next week ends.

Diamond based isometric map scrolling,

Diamond based isometric path finding

Some more random stuff for diamond based isometric maps like player projectiles and collisions as well as a simple method to speed up your game.

Then.

We will cover rectangular based isometric maps (which we use) and everything that we covered previously but to work with this different and more optimized layout method.

Also… Should have some updates on Rabbit Zombies in the next couple of weeks.

Catch you all in a week!

      Hi Zojai,

With panning do you mean scrolling around a map? if so the good news is I’m about to start writing it up just now!

      Best,

      Iain

    Hey

    Nice tutorials.
I try to build a game like simutrans for playing in a browser.
    You help me a lot!

    Do you continue the tutorials?
I have problems with the mouse because with scrolling the tile positions are not right.
I tried to fix this but it dont works ^^

Hope you help me and the others by writing a new one. ;)

      Hey T-Bone,

Sorry for such a late reply – did you manage to move on ok? I’m planning more tutorials and will hopefully fire out one on Thursday this week.

If you didn’t get it fixed feel free to reply here with a link and I’ll take a look,

      Best,

      Iain

    Good Luck!

    • Iain Hamilton says:

      Hi John,

Sorry I got really busy with University and my work clients and sadly this would pushed to the side. I’m back now and will be continuing the tutorials.

      Thanks,

      Iain

Isometric Problem Ok, Ive been working for about a month and I finally got stumped. Ive been working on an Isometric game, its been going smoothly until now. I can draw the map just fine but the problem lies when I need to get the maps tile coordinate from a screen coordinate. I did indeed look through much of what the forum had on Isometic stuff. There were answers to my question but for the wrong type of isometric map. If you look at the attached file you can see the difference. My map is like the first one, but almost all the info I can find on isometric stuff is on the second one. So if anyone could give me some information or a link or any help on how to do this screen to map translation it would be much appreciated.

I wanted to leave a comment telling you that this site has been invaluable as an introduction to isometric game programming. I hope to see more, so please keep up the great work!
